I CAN, the children’s communication charity is giving people the opportunity to ‘own’ a piece of the English language!

So if you are a lover of lingo, or know someone with a passion for pronouns, then this is the thing for you.
Adopt a word a fundraising initiative, so for just £15 you can adopt a word, for yourself or as a gift and the money goes to children with communication difficulties.

How it works

  • Go to the website www.adoptaword.com
  • Search for your favourite word in our database of words to see if it’s available.
  • If it is you can adopt it for a donation of £15 and own the word for a year.
  • You can also buy personalized merchandise with your word printed on.
  • You receive an official adoption certificate and letter which tells you more about the project and how your money helps.
  • Your word and reason are then displayed on the website when other people search for your word.
  • Most importantly your £15 goes to help one of the million children in the UK who have a speech and language difficulty.
Collins Language are proud to be the official sponsors and provided the database of 80,000 words.

By adopting a word you will be joining a host of celebrity adopters, such as Stephen Fry, Sir Paul McCartney and Miranda Hart. http://www.adoptaword.com/celebrities.php

What word would you chose?

What your £15 could do:

  • Help to provide an hour of speech and language therapy.
  • Go towards specialist training for a teacher
  • Provide two families with a DVD and resource pack giving practical advice
  • Help to provide specially designed toys and books for an I CAN nursery
